These three names cover most residential openers in the Charlotte area. We service all of them and hold no manufacturer affiliation, so here's the practical comparison.
LiftMaster and Chamberlain
LiftMaster and Chamberlain are related product lines from the same parent company. LiftMaster is the professional/dealer line; Chamberlain is the retail line. They share a great deal of engineering and both use the myQ app ecosystem, which is the most widely supported smart-garage platform.
In practice, LiftMaster units tend toward heavier-duty components and better parts availability through supply houses, which matters years later when you need a board or a gear kit.
Genie
Genie has been making openers for decades and offers strong value, including screw-drive models that some homeowners prefer. Their app platform is Aladdin Connect. Parts availability is generally good for current models, though older Genie units can be harder to source than equivalent-age LiftMaster hardware.
What matters more than the brand
- Drive type — belt versus chain affects your daily experience far more than the badge
- Correct horsepower for the door's weight
- Battery backup availability on the model you choose
- Whether the springs and hardware are in good condition — a new opener won't fix a bad counterbalance
- Who installs it and whether the safety sensors and force limits are set correctly
Craftsman and other rebrands
Many Craftsman openers were manufactured by Chamberlain, which is why programming procedures often look familiar across those units. We service them the same way.
